More good financial news: Microsoft has joined the list of companies reporting record results for the quarter ending December 2009.

Microsoft's financial results for the company's second fiscal quarter (ending December 31, 2009) show record revenue, driven largely by sales of Windows 7.

The company reported record revenue of $US19.02 billion, up 14% year-on-year.

Net income was up an impressive 60%, though it should be noted that the year-ago quarter was a poor one, with net income down by 11% as the financial crisis took hold.

Microsoft executives pointed to the successful launch of Windows 7 as a major driver of revenue growth. "Exceptional demand for Windows 7 led to the positive top-line growth for the company," said chief financial officer Peter Klein.

Windows 7 was launched almost one-third of the way into the quarter, yet Microsoft still sold over 60 million licences.
