Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Brightstar, the US company recently selected by Telstra as its the exclusive source for all wireless phones, devices and accessories, has joined with three other companies from the US, Middle East and Europe to form "a distribution, supply chain and retail alliance to serve the wireless telecommunications industry worldwide."
Brightstar was also named last October to distribute and support Motorola cellphones in Australia, to network operators, dealers and retailers.
The new entity, BRAXDA Telecom, is jointly and equally owned by Brightstar, Axiom Telecom, Dangaard Telecom & RadioShack. Between them the four claim to purchase over 50 million handsets annually, serve 52 countries and reach over 70,000 points of sale worldwide. Together, the four companies' 2005 revenues were in excess of $US10 billion.
Axiom Telecom claims to be the largest retailer and distribution services company in the Middle East; Brightstar the largest wireless distribution and supply chain management company serving the wireless industry; Dangaard Telecom the largest European distribution and supply chain management company; and RadioShack the leading wireless consumer electronics retailer serving consumers throughout North America
According to Faisal al Bannai, founder and CEO of Axiom Telecom, "The founding companies are...actively seeking high-growth companies in the wireless arena to join us in this venture. Increasing the reach of the alliance will benefit both consumers and manufacturers."
The partners say BRAXDA was founded "to assist manufacturers, retailers and operators in accelerating products to market." Additionally, "members seek to share best practices to increase operational efficiencies and will investigate the feasibility of entering new markets in the future."
