Orion gives undertakings following Telstra legal action

IT Industry - Strategy

Telephony services provider, Orion Telecommunications has lodged three permanent undertakings with the Federal Court governing its telesales conduct, following legal action by Telstra last year, and will pay Telstra an undisclosed sum in settlement of the action.

Telstra took action alleging that Orion's sales representatives had been unduly harassing Australian consumers and wrongly claiming the company was associated with Telstra, and that, as a result, customers were being transferred without their informed consent.

Orion has undertaken:
- not to allege any association between Orion and Telstra;
- not to transfer customers' phone services from Telstra without the customer's informed consent; and
- not to call any customer in any future Orion telemarketing campaigns if that customer has requested they not be contacted.
