Austar names Navini as wireless net supplier

IT Industry - Strategy

Austar United Communications has selected Navini Networks as the supplier of the WiMAX-based regional broadband network which it plans to rollout in two regional markets in Australia in coming months.

Austar says it plans to develop WiMAX for 25 regional locations by the end of 2007. "This will deliver a world-class broadband network to approximately 750,000 homes," according to CEO, John Porter. Austar also intends to work with Unwired Australia to allow roaming between the regional Austar and metropolitan Unwired networks, which also use Navini equipment.

Austar announced the schedule of its planned rollout in October 2005 and in November announced that it had chosen Total Communications Infrastructure Ltd (TCI) to deploy the network across regional Australia.
