Vividwireless, the Unwired subsidiary set up to market services on its mobile WiMAX network in Perth, has selected Alcatel-Lucent subsidiary Motive to supply remote configuration and management technology for its user devices.
Vividwireless CEO, Martin Mercer, said: “After a thorough competitive analysis we selected Motive’s mobile broadband solution because of its superior product features and demonstrated fluency in OMA-DM and TR-069 standards."
OMA-DM is a device management protocol specified by the Open Mobile Alliance - a standards body focussed primarily on the cellular industry - for small mobile devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and palm top computers. It is intended to support provisioning, configuration, software upgrades and fault management.
TR-069 (Technical Report 069) was developed by the DSL Forum (now the Broadband Forum) for the remote management of broadband CPE including modems, routers, gateways, set-top box, and VoIP-phones.
According to Mercer, the Vividwireless deployment of Motive is the first of its kind (ie on a WiMAX network) and will help the company provide a simple, seamless customer experience across the entire eco-system of mobile WiMAX devices and services. "The benefits are reduced customer service handling times and increased first call resolution resulting in a world-class customer experience," Mercer said.
Vividwireless plans to deploy and support a range of WiMAX devices based on the OMA-DM and TR-069 standards. Motive’s technology will enable remote provisioning and troubleshooting of WiMAX devices using both these device management protocols.
According to Motive, "By delivering a positive, trouble-free experience throughout the entire customer service lifecycle, Vividwireless will increase customer loyalty and service uptake across a wide range of services and devices by ensuring that the devices are configured with the right settings and can be upgraded easily as the network is optimised."
Plans for the Vividwireless network were
announced last September and key suppliers
named shortly afterwards.
