IBM Australia acquires Classic Blue

IT Industry - Strategy

IBM Australia has acquired Australian business continuity services provider, Classic Blue to broaden its Australian reach into the SMB sector. According to IBM, the acquisition enhances its ability to provide cost-competitive security solutions designed to meet the needs of small-to-medium businesses.

Classic Blue is a privately owned company with a 15-year history in providing business continuity services and business recovery facilities. Classic Blue's offerings include security and systems solutions, managed services and professional services, delivered from recovery centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

'Our research with clients tells us that business continuity will become one of their top three priorities over the next 12 months,' said David Burns, general manager, IBM Global Services. 'Acquiring Classic Blue allows IBM to extend its geographical capabilities, particularly in South Australia and Queensland, strengthen its skills in supporting both IBM and non-IBM platforms, and offer more cost-competitive solutions to meet this growing demand.

'Classic Blue enjoys a reputation for delivering high quality end-to-end business resilience and continuity solutions with a strong client focus. Through the quality of Classic Blue's people and infrastructure, IBM is able to provide more flexible, competitive business continuity solutions which address the rapidly growing needs of businesses of all sizes.'

Adrian Bogatez, executive chairman of Classic Blue, said IBM's acquisition of Classic Blue would benefit clients of both organisations.

'Our clients will now have access to the full range of IBM technology, services and consulting expertise through a single provider. IBM's recognised leadership in business continuity and security solutions, combined with Classic Blue's flexibility and mid-market insight will create a compelling suite of offerings that deliver real business value,' said Mr Bogatez.

The terms of the acquisition are undisclosed.
