Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
VHA has launched a $99 prepaid mobile broadband starter pack under the Vodafone brand. It includes a USB modem with pre-installed software (Windows & Mac), SIM card and 1GB data allowance if activated before 31 December 2009.
Recharge options start at $19 for 500MB. 1GB cost $29 and 3GB $39. Windows users get 15,30 or 50 respectively included SMS messages. Unused data, but not SMS rolls over if recharged within 30 days. The USB modem also has an SD memory card slot
Vodafone launched prepaid mobile broadband services in March 2009 , following Three and Optus and with pricing almost identical to that charged by Optus, and rather higher than Three's pricing. It dropped the price of its starter pack in late July from $149 to $129 ($119 if ordered online) claiming it to be the "best value" on the Australian market, but, as iTWire noted at the time , that claim was questionable with Three looking like the better deal.
Three has 0.5GB for $15, $29 for 2GB, $49 for 4G but of course, coverage is much more limited and roaming charges at 10c/MB equate to $100 per GB.
A Vodafone spokeswoman told iTWire "We do believe at Vodafone that we do have the very best in market Prepaid mobile broadband starter pack. Optus currently offers their starter pack (USB modem + 200MB data) for $129. 3 Mobile’s (USB modem +1OO MB) for $129Telstra (USB modem +75MB) for $129. I think you’ll find that our current proposition of USB stick modem + 1GB of data for $99 is the most compelling in the market."
Editor's note - Since posting the first update of this story with these comments we have been informed by Optus, and have verified, that Optus offers a wireless broadband starter pack comprising USB E160E Modem for $99, including 200MB of data or 1GB of data if ordered and activate online. Our final comment is that this demonstrates that wireless broadband plans and pricing are all to confusing.
