Cisco has teamed up with Schneider Electric subsidiary, Pelco to develop high definition IP security cameras based on Pelco's Sarix that will be co-branded and sold by Cisco partners worldwide by the end of 2009.
Bill Stuntz, general manager and vice president of the Cisco Physical Security business unit, said the combination of Cisco's IP networking expertise and Pelco's imaging expertise would be "a win-win" for customers. "After conducting an extensive evaluation of current technologies, we found that Pelco has developed one of the most advanced IP HD imaging systems in the global security marketplace."
Pelco will initially supply Cisco with a complete line of HD imaging technologies that will be used to extend Cisco's existing camera line and network-centric video surveillance systems. Cameras co-branded by Cisco and Pelco will offer full-frame-rate video, H.264 compression, advanced low-light performance, embedded analytics, auto focus, and easy installation. As joint development proceeds, IP networking features will be embedded into the co-branded cameras."
This is the second tie up between the two companies. In December 2008, Pelco announced that it had joined the Cisco technology developer programme in the programme's Industrial wireless solution category and had completed interoperability testing between its Spectra IV IP and IP110 Series cameras and the Cisco 1520 WiFi Mesh Access Point.
