iiNet plans $2 million call centre upgrade

IT Industry - Strategy

iiNet is planning an upgrade to its call centre infrastructure that will see services provided from three 'follow the sun' locations - Auckland, Sydney and Perth.

CEO Michael Malone told the company's AGM that Alcatel subsidiary, Genesys, had been selected for the upgrade and that it was due to be implemented in the first quarter of 2006.

The company's chairman told the AGM that call centre performance had suffered in recent months because of the high volume of calls resulting from the integration of OzEmail customers. " However, as the integration is now complete, call volumes should return to normal levels from December onwards. With increased staffing across all support centres, and upgraded infrastructure due to be installed in January, we expect to steadily re-establish our award
winning service levels," he said.

The company has sharpened its focus to three services: dial up and broadband Internet access and telephony, and in October ceased reselling the iBurst wireless broadband service and sold these customers to Veritel, now acquired by BigAir. It has also rationalised its office locations to Perth, Sydney, Auckland having closed its Adelaide office in July and with its Melbourne office due to close in January.
