Telstra to sell Alcatel-Lucent enterprise communications products

IT Industry - Strategy

Telstra Enterprise and Government has become an Alcatel-Lucent premium enterprise business partner and will offer Alcatel-Lucent's portfolio of converged communications products – IP telephony, unified communications and contact centre systems.

Alcatel-Lucent products that will be available through Telstra include the OmniPCX IP Telephony platform, OmniTouch My Instant Communicator for unified communications, OmniTouch Contact Centre and applications. The agreement, however does not cover products from Alcatel-Lucent subsidiary Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories which specialises in call centre systems and which was recognised with a Market Leadership Award in the Australian contact centre applications market by Frost & Sullivan in 2008.

Martin Claridge, VP of sales at Alcatel-Lucent, said: "We're broadening our long-term relationship with Telstra in the carrier networking and IP transformation space into the enterprise market. Telstra's enterprise and government customers now have the combined might of our world-leading technology and experience at their fingertips. We look forward to combining the power of Telstra's Next IP network with our leading voice and unified communications solutions to help organizations make and save money."

Alcatel-Lucent is already a major supplier to Telstra: it was the systems integrator and supplier of edge routers for Telstra's Next IP platform and had been chosen by Telstra as the primary supplier of the FTTN network that Telstra proposed to the Federal Government, initially in 2005. When this evolved into the NBN Mark 1 RFP Alcatel-Lucent devoted huge resources to helping Telstra prepare its bid, which was ultimately rejected as invalid by The Government.
