Telstra is looking to strengthen its ties with outside partners through the company's external research and development program. Public and private players are invited to participate.

Telstra's going into the program with an open mind - any ideas that has the potential to benefit industry or Australian end-users will be considered, as long as they are relevant to Telstra's business.

"The range of projects may be diverse – for example environmentally focussed projects, such as new energy management, water management and climate change, ranging through to technology focussed projects that have a view to the future such as cloud computing, smart infrastructure or urban development," said Hugh Bradlow, CTO at Telstra.

"We are inviting all groups involved in research and development – whether research institutions, universities, start-ups, established companies or equipment vendors - to let us know about their projects, and we will choose a number of these to support. As the largest Australian telco we can support these project by offering access to internal experts, facilitated meetings with suppliers and other types of in-kind support," said Bradlow.

Interested parties are invited to submit a précis of their project via www.telstra.com.au/research by 16 September 2009.
