During the quarter Akamai also noted a number of large-scale denial-of-service attacks. In late January there was a major attack against the DNS servers of domain registrar Network Solutions which caused problems for thousands of web sites.

In late February, the DNS servers controlling Time Warner Cable’s network were attacked over a seven-day period.
