Apple drops copyright complaint against wiki

IT Industry - Strategy

The operators of Bluwiki complied, even though the discussion was not about breaking the DRM on song files.

That was in November 2008. In April 2009, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), acting on behalf of the Bluwiki operators, asked a court to reject Apple's claims and allow Bluwiki to repost the material.

Earlier this month, Apple formally withdrew its objection to the posted pages and promising not to take any further action.

In return, the EFF has announced that it is dismissing its lawsuit.

The case is especially interesting in light of the activity surrounding the Palm Pre, which on its release was able to sync with iTunes just like an iPod.

A recent iTunes update from Apple broke that functionality.

It was never entirely clear how the Pre managed to convince iTunes it was an iPod, and it's unknown whether Palm will try to (or even can) restore that feature.
