Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Telnic (http://telnic.org), the registry operator for the new communications-focused .tel top level domain has made its application for managing and integrating .tel information directly into the BlackBerry address book available through BlackBerry App World.
.tel domains, launched in March of 2009, are designed to provide businesses and individuals with a simple and low-cost way of sharing 'real time' contact information under one simple-to-remember name.
An individual or businesses .tel domain provides a contacts directory accessible from desktop or cellphone browsers and through search engines. (For example, Telstra has one but it has yet to be fully exploited, it lists only www.telstra.com.au as a contact channel).
According to Telnic, "With this application, you can view contact information in .tel domains and save it to your address book. After installing the application, you will see a new .tel icon on the home screen, and new options in your address book. From the main screen, you can launch the .tel application to lookup .tels, to view public contact details, Import .tel data to your address book, synchronise your contacts with .tel data. switch between profiles in your .tel domains, adjust .tel application settings." The application can also be downloaded from http://bb.apps.telnic.tel
Telnic last October released beta versions of applications for BlackBerries, iPhones and Window-based PCs to enable address books to be dynamically updated with information stored in a .tel owner's domain.
The BlackBerry version is the last to go fully commercial. Telnic's iPhone app, Superbook, became available as a free download from the Apple Store in late May. According to Telnic "it enables you to locate and browse .tel domains quickly without having to go to the Web...Superbook brings the power of real-time information - including the time zone that the individual is currently in - to contacts in your iPhone's address book with .tel domains."
