iPhone 3.0 and Snow Leopard to dominate Apple WWDC

IT Industry - Strategy

Apple has confirmed that iPhone OS 3.0 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard will be the main topics at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month.

Attendees at the sold-out WWDC will receive a final Developer Preview release of Snow Leopard, said SVP of software engineering Bertrand Serlet.

This largely confirms recent reports that Apple has frozen the Snow Leopard APIs.

Developers will be able to "see the incredible progress we’ve made on Snow Leopard and work with us as we move toward its final release," added Serlet.

While there has been no official statement on the matter, it is widely expected that iPhone OS 3.0 - and perhaps a new iPhone - will be released at WWDC.

All Apple's saying is that there will be in-depth sessions on iPhone OS 3.0 covering introductory and advanced concepts to help developers get the most out of iPhone OS 3.0 and its 1000+ new APIs.

There has been some speculation that Steve Jobs might give the keynote even though his medical leave of absence runs until the end of June. Apple has confirmed that a team of executives led by Philip Schiller (SVP of worldwide product marketing) will deliver the keynote.

The keynote starts at 10am on June 8 (US Pacific time). At this stage there is no indication that the keynote will be streamed live or on-demand after the event.
