Having focussed its 'Future Forums' for the past two years on Australia's need for broadband infrastructure ATUG is turning its attention in 2009 to issues around how to maximise the economic benefits of the future NBN.
Its 2009 series of Future Forums whch kicks off on May 5, is designed to bracket the expected release in July of the Government's Digital Economy Directions Paper being developed following submission to its
Digital Economy Future Directions Consultation Paper, released in late 2008.
ATUG says the events will aim to identify the priority areas for government policy and programsme beyond the build phase of the NBN, "focussing on the policies and programmes that need to be in place to support the accelerated development of Australia's digital economy."
The series of three forums to be held in May, June and July will look at:
• Infrastructure and access services – NBN and 3G mobile developments; digital TV; coverage, competition and consumer framework; quality of service options, informed choice;
·• Innovation and applications – new businesses, new business and government service models, new ways of working, new skills;
· Integrity and assurance – e-capability; e-security, privacy; digital confidence; empowered consumers.
The first forum will be held at the Australian Technology Park, Redfern from 8.30 to 12.00 noon Tiuesday 5 May. Details
