The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.
Long suffering readers of my articles will know that I always like to make mention of the fact that Noel shares a surname with one of the most well known sci-fi actors of all time, Mark Hamill.
However Noel has never been in contact with me to verify whether there’s any blood relation between himself and the man who played Luke Skywalker, thus we carry on our sci-fi fantasies assuming that Noel and Mark are of no known relation, none of which stops me from tirelessly making the same Star Warsian observations every time Noel speaks.
Of course, now that 3 Mobile has teamed up with Vodafone, we can pretend that Vodafone is an even bigger “evil empire” than Telstra and we can don our sci-fi goggles to imagine that Luke Skywalker has done a deal with the devil (Darth Vader).
Once we remove our sci-fi blast goggles we can get back to reality, where the non-lightsaber carrying Noel Hamill draws upon the pain of the GFC (global financial crisis) to note that: “We know that in these tough economic times Aussies are looking closely at their monthly expenditure. This $19 cap will give our customers a great range of options with fantastic value”.
3 Mobile says that the LG KF310, Sony Ericsson G502 and the Nokia 3120 are but three of the “stylish handsets” available “free” on this cap, so if none of those models take your fancy there are clearly a range of others.
You’ll need to sign up to a 24-month plan, as is usually the case, to make a $19 cap a reality in your life.
3 Mobile also took the opportunity to remind us all of the “huge range of 3G content” they offer to consumers, “including mobile TV with popular shows such as Network Ten’s Biggest Loser, Sky News and Fox Sports, plus the latest in mobile games, music and more via its Planet 3 portal.”
If you’re looking for an inexpensive phone and cheap plan to go along with it, the $19 cap may tempt. Those who talk a lot on their phones, however, would be better off with a higher value cap.
