Additional New Year’s calling research findings include:

More than one third (34.63%) of Australian mothers will miss out on being contacted by their child/children this New Year’s Eve/Day, despite 98.69% who want their children to contact them.

36.72% of males will either not call, or are unsure if they will contact, their mum on New Year’s Eve/Day this year.

10.56% of males will SMS their mum on New Year’s Eve/Day compared to 16.71% of females.

34.67% of 18-24 year olds who plan to call their mums on New Year’s Eve/Day plan to speak to them for five minutes or less, compared to only 19% of 45-49 year olds.

Clearly the message from Telstra, and no doubt the other phone companies, is to make sure you give your mum a call!

About the research: the research was conducted by PureProfile and commissioned by Telstra.

It included an online survey of 1000 mothers with children over 18 years of age and 1000 Australians with mothers.

The research took place from 15-18 December 2008.
