The Senator’s statement continues:

”In Telstra’s case this related to the simple question of whether or not the Government would impose further separation on the company, structural or otherwise, should it win the tender.”

Minchin’s specific commentary continues: “As a result of the Minister’s failures we had a position where the nation’s largest telco was unable to submit a substantive proposal.

“Despite this, Senator Conroy said Telstra’s proposal would be considered on the same basis as all others, but now we learn the company is to be excluded for what Telstra has quite rightly described a ‘peripheral issue’.

“This comes on a day when leading industry figure Simon Hackett warned that Labor’s proposed NBN could be obsolete as little as five years after its completion.

“This process is beyond a joke and Senator Conroy is solely responsible for the collision course it is on.

“What I find so deeply troubling is how the Government is using this utterly appalling process to guide the spending of $4.7 billion of taxpayers’ money,” concluded the Shadow Minister for Communications.

Now we can but wonder – by what time today will Telstra’s lawsuit be lodged, and will the NBN process be delayed again, making the already 5-year timeframe blow out even further?
