Internode brings unmetered access to ABC TV’s iView!

IT Industry - Strategy

Internode customers who are also fans of Australia’s ABC television network can rejoice: you can now watch as much ABC TV through the iView “catch up service” as you want without drawing down on your monthly download limit!

“WOOT! Excellent! Makes me happy!” said one Internode customer we spoke to upon learning of Internode’s decision to bring unmetered access to ABC TV’s “iView” catch up service.

iView is similar to the BBC’s iPlayer in the UK, in that iView allows Australians to watch a wide range of ABC TV content “on-demand” through their PCs over a broadband connection.

The biggest problem in Australia, however, as is the case in many countries, is that TV-on-demand at decent quality (which iView says is “high resolution, full-screen viewing”)chews through hundreds of megabytes, even gigabytes of video at a very fast pace.

With many broadband users either on slow broadband, lumbered with small download limits, or both, selective watching of iView or not watching the service at all has befallen many Australians.

While iiNet was the first Australian ISP to offer umetered access to iView, Internode now joins the club, launching unmetered access today for its customers throughout Australia.

ABC iView, which uses an Adobe Flash player foundation, includes the following content:

- ABC CatchUp, which showcases popular shows from ABC1 and ABC2

- ABC News

- ABC Kazam!, a high-energy channel for kids

- ABC Docs, containing natural history programs, social documentaries and factual series

- ABC Arts, a schedule that celebrates the arts in Australia and beyond

- ABC Shop, which previews programs for rent or purchase from ABC Shop Downloads.

ABC iView uses the Adobe Flash Player to provide a high-quality experience for viewers.

So, how did Internode manage to do a deal with the ABC? Please read on to page 2.
