Telstra releases new pre-paid plans and blue tick Next G handset

IT Industry - Strategy

Telstra says it has listened to “customer feedback” in creating its four new prepaid phone plans, promising “great benefits like free voice minutes, text, data and long credit expiry” while also launching a new “Blue Tick approved” Next G “T6” handset.

With a “get ready for summer” theme, Telstra has launched new prepaid plans and a new Next G handset to appeal to consumers and make life harder for its competitors.

Glenice Maclellan, Telstra’s Executive Director of the Consumer division, said the offers are “designed for customers who want simplicity and certainty, making them ideal for people finishing exams and making plans for Christmas and summer.”

Explaining further, Maclellan said: “With a $40 recharge, on top of the $40 credit you can also get 150 minutes of national voice calls plus 150 standard SMS to anyone for free, anytime on any network in Australia for 30 days.

“Other offers include 1c text to Telstra mobiles for 30 days for heavy SMS users, and a longer credit expiry offer for the customers who need the reliability of the Next G network, but are not regular users.

“Additionally, Telstra prepaid customers get to use our Next G network, Australia’s largest and fastest national mobile network,” concluded Maclellan.

Telstra has also “removed MessageBank diversion charges and substantially increased the data inclusion in its Browse Plus packs.”

Ross Fielding, Telstra’s Executive Director of Product Management said people “looking for a prepaid mobile to take advantage of the new offers could now choose from an even greater range which includes the latest release handset, the T6.

“The T6 is a stylish candy bar handset offering a 2MP camera, FM radio, media player, video calling, MMS functionality, Telstra Mobile Code Reader and much more.

“Rural and regional customers will have the added benefit of knowing that the T6 comes with Telstra’s all important ‘blue tick’ rating, meaning it is recommended for handheld use in these areas,” said Fielding.

Telstra is also promoting its “My PrePaid” service, saying that Next G prepaid customers can also recharge their account and manage their details directly from their handset.

The T6 has a recommended retail price of $129 which includes some credit to get customers started, and as with all Next G handsets from Telstra, has access to “advanced mobile content and applications including BigPond TV, 33 channels on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra, Sensis search services, plus an array of the latest news, weather and sports reports.”
