Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Ideas must be submitted by October 20, and then Google employees will select a shortlist of 100. Starting January 27, 2009, public voting will whittle that list down to 20 semi-finalists.
The final step in the judging will be carried out by an expert advisory board that will select up to five ideas for funding.
Note that it is the ideas that will be funded, not entrants. Even if an winning entry is made on behalf of an organisation that plans to put it into action, Google will use a tender-style process to identify one or more organisations best placed to do the implementation.
That said, entrants can nominate organisations to implement their ideas, in which case they will be contacted at the start of the selection process.
What's in it for the people that enter the chosen ideas? "[G]ood karma and the satisfaction of knowing that your idea might truly help a lot of people."
So if you've ever had an idea that might make the world a better place, here's your chance to see it put into action.
