Google's latest foray: video

IT Industry - Strategy

Google is videostreaming, in full, the pilot episode of a new comedy show from US TV channel UPN, "Everybody hates Chris".

The move marks Google's entry into yet another market raising the prospect that it aims to be a major player. In the past few days there have been suggestions that Google could be planning to build its own private global network, and that it could be planning a large scale rollout of WiFi hotspots in the US.

One US news report commented on the latest development saying that Google had "stepped into what has primarily been considered Yahoo's territory...Yahoo has evolved into a media company with a strong focus on content...Google, on the other hand, has never shown much interest in original content." That could be about to change.
