IBM brings another jobs boost to Ballarat

Last October, the Victorian Government, IBM Australia, Westpac and the University of Ballarat backed the then-new Internet Commerce Security Laboratory at the university to the tune of $A4 million. The laboratory is also located at the Technology Park.

Ballarat is perhaps best known as a gold mining town, and as the site of the Eureka Rebellion in 1854. The city has focussed on the development of a local ICT industry since 1994, and more than a quarter of the companies in the cluster were founded after 2000.

The latest announcement from IBM means Ballarat continues its growth as an Important Business Metropolis (OK, so that one's a bit of a stretch!) and bodes well for Australia’s claim to be a truly clever country.
