The appearance of iTunes 8 in just a couple of weeks is
less easy to determine. Yes, there is plenty of speculation about a
subscription-based approach to music from Apple in the next release,
but nothing conclusive to back this up.
Now Rose has claimed during an interview on
TWiT.TV during the '
this WEEK in TECH ' podcast that iTunes 8 will feature a music
recommendation function based on the music you already have.
Rose also claimed that the big Apple iPod launch date will be September 9th.
Historically, Apple tends to launch Macs in August and iPods in
September so Rose could well be right.
I have found nobody amongst my
media contacts who has said 'No, absolutely not true' and plenty who
have simply said they couldn't possibly comment.
Which you can usually take as a yes.
Of course, this news will mean that the Apple world online is about to
explode with rumours of this being a Apple Super Event and heralding
the arrival of that much speculated about
new MacBook.
Somehow, if this were going to happen, I reckon Kevin Rose, and the
rest of the informed rumour brigade, would have been all over it. And
they are not...
