Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Siemens Venture Capital, a subsidiary of Siemens AG, has made a strategic investment in Tropos Networks, a developer of meshed WiFi technologies.
Also, the Siemens Communications Group will evaluate Tropos MetroMesh systems for use in new geographic and vertical markets. Terms of the funding agreement were not disclosed.
According to Siemens, Tropos is "the clear leader in the metro-scale WiFi mesh networking system market". It claims 200 plus customers in more than 25 countries.
Metro-scale mesh networks deliver city-wide fixed and mobile broadband access via a WiFi infrastructure through a network of acces points and mesh routers that form a self-configuring and self-healing network that forwards client data from mesh router to mesh router to a wired Internet connection.
One of Tropos' main competitors - and of Siemens in a range of market - is Nortel which has enjoyed some success with is own WiFi mesh technology, including a citywide rollout in Taipei.
