"After contacting FreeTV Australia we have been told to contact the individual TV networks if we're seeking a licensing agreement but, despite our efforts, we are not receiving much communication in return," he says.
Kossatz says IceTV can meet any requirements the
networks may have, but also believes IceTV can "greatly assist them"
with the proposed Freeview PVR by offering EPG related features "that
easily match that of the current Foxtel IQ EPG offering, in terms of
added functionality and user focused features".
"We would like a licensing agreement in place and to be working
with the TV networks to help improve the free-to-air offering for
viewers," Kossatz says. "Unless you are TiVo or Foxtel, there certainly seems to be
little information about the broadcast EPG or communication
regarding what the future plans are."
Despite the complaints of users, the broadcast EPG is a "great benefit" to Australian television viewers, says a FreeTV Australia spokeswoman.
"The free-to-air EPG makes it easier than ever for viewers to plan their free TV viewing and never miss their favourite shows. Free TV understands the EPG is working well and is not aware of any widespread issues regarding the accuracy of the EPG data provided by broadcasters."
"While the data is provided free and unencrypted, broadcasters reserve all rights with respect to copyright and protection of intellectual property."
Think again. Most businesses only have PART of a DR plan - and this spells business disaster in the event of an IT disaster.
