Fujitsu has acquired financial services specialist Chartres Business Solutions in order to extend its consulting services capability in that sector.

Chartres' directors will take up management roles within Fujitsu Consulting.

"The move to Fujitsu will significantly enhance the scope of what we can currently provide our customers today, and as part of the world's third largest IT services organisation, will also provide us with a platform from which our original vision can be fulfilled," said Chartres' managing director, Brendon Trezise.

"The financial services sector is a key growth area for Fujitsu, and this acquisition enables us to effectively compete in today's increasingly competitive, business consulting domain," said Rod Vawdrey, CEO, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.

"Chartres is an innovative organisation with a strong reputation for its intellectual property in this market."

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
