Christmas bonus for Blu-ray buyers

Five leading brands in the Blu-ray camp will provide buyers with a Christmas bonus in the form of five free movies.

Nominated players from Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp and Sony sold between October 1 and December 31 will come with a mail-in offer of five free movies from major studios.

One title can be selected from each of the following groups:

Disney: The Wild, Dinosaur, Sky High

Fox: Entrapment, Fantastic Four, Ice Age 2, Kingdom of Heaven
   
MGM: Rocky, Rocky Balboa, Hart's War
 
Sony: Casino Royale, Open Season, Ghostrider, Black Hawk Down, Hitch

Warner Bros: Corpse Bride, Blazing Saddles, Superman

"This offer demonstrates how broad the support is for this format from leading hardware manufacturers and studios to enable Australians to experience the future of home entertainment in their lounge rooms right now," said Michele Garra, chair of the Australian Blu-ray Disc Working Group.

Group officials quoted figures from market research company GfK showing that Blu-ray took 87.3 percent of the high-definition movie market in the second quarter of 2007.
