OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
The 26-strong development team is being retrenched. They joined Compuware as a result of its $31 million acquisition of Proxima in January 2007.
Seven former Proxima staff - product specialists, content matter specialists and the product manager - will remain with Compuware's Australian operation, but will be relocated from the city to North Ryde.
Brett Lightfoot, Compuware's manager of field technical services in Australia and New Zealand said centralised development was a "commercial reality" that would lead to better quality and increased efficiency. The stand-alone products that had been added to the company's portfolio through acquisitions had to be integrated with Compuware's other offerings, he said.
Similarly, development of the Optimal Trace and Strobe products is being moved from Dublin and Cambridge (Massachusetts) to Detroit.
Lightfoot said that as the products are sold worldwide, customers are not concerned about where they were developed.
Compuware chief information officer Chris Bockhausen said "The company will continue to invest significantly in the technical excellence of these strategic solutions and will maintain superior levels of support for all Compuware customers, during and after this transition."
In total, 100 employees will lose their jobs, saving the company approximately $US13 million per year.
