Australia’s first digital postal service provider, Digital Post has launched its first private digital postbox in advance of a public rollout later this year, opening it up to an invitation-only group, including employees of the businesses that have already signed agreements to deliver digital postal mail.

Coinciding with the private launch, Digital Post Chairman, David Hynes, also announced the appointment of Randy Dean as Australian CEO. Dean, previously held the position of Senior Vice-President/Managing Director of Digital Postal Mail at Zumbox, Digital Post Australia’s technology partner.

Announcing the private launch in Australia, David Hynes said that within the first 24-hours of the launch over five hundred people registered and received access to their first digital postbox.

“Australia’s first digital postbox is now a reality and the response has been tremendous. Our private launch marks an important milestone in the digital transformation of postal communications in Australia and puts our country on the map as a leader in the digital postal space. We are delighted that our customers are engaged and enthusiastic about bringing this new innovation to life.”

Hynes said the company had worked closely with its channel partners, Salmat and Computershare, to develop a market-ready offering that could be implemented seamlessly for mailers with minimal effort, and expected to continue signing new business customers as the service approached its public debut.

According to Hynes, the three companies had created an entirely new model of mail delivery that would offer the greatest cost savings to businesses and the best possible experience to consumers.

“Around the world the traditional postal service industry is in decline as more and more people are relying on the Internet to help manage their everyday lives. Through our proven technology, Digital Post Australia is leading the market in helping Australians to manage mail, pay bills and store important information in a safe and convenient way.”

According to Randy Dean, postal services are one of the few remaining areas that have not experienced digital transformation to meet the needs of the digital consumer.

“In the same way that the music, photo and book and print media industries have undergone massive change, physical mail is poised for a digital transformation that will bring tremendous convenience for consumers and extraordinary opportunities for businesses,” Dean predicted.
