Australia one of 1st countries for Aegis Citrix VID upgrade

IT Industry - Market

Australia will be among the first countries in the world to make the transition to the new, Citrix virtual desktop infrastructure under a 'revolutionary' technology upgrade to be undertaken by global outsourcing provider, Aegis.

Aegis has announced that it is set to undertake the upgrade with its Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Project and that Australia, along with Aegis offices in India, the Philippines and South Africa, would be the first countries to make the transition.

Chris Luxford, Aegis president Australia and New Zealand, said the company was always striving to be at the cutting edge of technology, and the significant investment in the project would enable Aegis employees to 'hot desk'. 'This means staff can sit at any desk in any location and still have easy and instant access to all the information they need,' Luxford said.

Luxford said Aegis had evolved from providing cost-effective business process outsourcing services to becoming a 'trusted partner to many of the world's leading blue chip organisations across financial services, telecommunications and energy.'  'This technological upgrade will further assist Aegis in managing and enhancing the experience of its partners' customers,' Luxford added.

Aegis employs over 50,000 people across 12 countries, including its 2,000 employees in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.

Luxford also said that the new technology allowed instant access to all applications from any location via the cloud. 'From our initial cost estimates we believe we will save 50% on our hardware costs and provide an even better experience to our partners' customers.'

'Our existing technology requires an almost continuous upgrade cycle of hardware to keep pace with changes in software - at significant cost. Currently it can also be hard to move staff around because their login is dedicated to a particular hardware spec for our various client-related activities. The Citrix system will enable us to easily move staff to deal with the peaks and troughs of the businesses we work with,' Luxford added.
