Windows, Internet Explorer continue to lose web share

IT Industry - Market

Web share statistics for April suggest users are continuing to move away from Windows and Internet Explorer. Mobile devices and Chrome are among the beneficiaries.

NetMarketShare's April 2010 numbers are out. The OS share figures are practically flat since last month, but the trends are generally still going in the same direction.

Windows usage continues to drift fractionally downwards (91.46%, compared with 91.58% in March and 93.45% in April 2009).

Mac usage is well up on the year (5.32% vs 4.64%), but is a whisker lower than in March (5.33%).

Linux usage is almost back to its year-ago position (1.05% vs 1.06%) with a small rise from March (1.03%).

Mobile devices are where the real growth is occurring. Java ME is still the leading platform on 0.79% (up from 0.78% in March and 0.35% a year ago).
