Cloud alliance sides with Optus on copyright

John Stanton to replace Anne Hurley as CEO of Comms Alliance

John Stanton has been named as CEO of Communications Alliance, to replace Anne Hurley who announced last year that she would step down in 2010.

Stanton, who will take up the position in late April, has spent the past 18 years in the telecommunications industry. He was most recently CEO of People Telecom, until its acquisition by M2 Telecommunications in early 2009.

He started his career in telecoms at the Overseas Telecommunications Commission (later Corporation) and joined what is now Telstra on the merger of Telecom Australia with OTC in 1992 to create the Australian and Overseas Telecommunications Corporation (AOTC). His initial role was as group manager corporate affairs.

In the next six years he held a number of management roles including managing director of payphones and card services and representing on the board of Intelsat which he chaired from 1996-1997.

He left Telstra to  join Intelsat in 1999 as vice president of sales and marketing. He was based in the UK from 2001-2005 as president and director of Intelsat global sales & marketing and of the data, carrier and Internet business unit.
