Pizza Hut’s slice of reality with new iPhone app

IT Industry - Market

Pizza Hut has launched a new service for Australian customers today which provides iPhone 3Gs users with the ability to find their nearest Pizza Hut store by utilising GPS technology and its augmented reality function.

Pizza Hut Australia marketing director, Valerie Kubizniak, said today the new iPhone app – which the company calls ‘GPS Store Finder’, has been specially created for the local market, taking the best from the “hugely popular U.S. version and adding an Aussie twist.”

According to Kubizniak,” interest in the Pizza Hut iPhone app was hot even before the local version was available, with Australians already attempting to download the U.S. app in the days after it launched so we’re confident it will be a hit.”

Kubizniak said someone looking for a Pizza Hut outlet simply has to hold up their iPhone 3Gs, the camera opens and the screen shows not only what is in front of the user, but small tabs highlighting the direction and distance of Pizza Hut locations nearby.

“Point north, south east or west and the locations change before your eyes – everyone will love this feature and it’s so much fun to use.”

Kubizniak reckons all iPhone users will have fun with the exclusive racing game, which she says is a “great way to be entertained while waiting for their orders to be delivered.

“Importantly, of course, the app offers all iPhone users an easy and fun ways of ordering from Pizza Hut – just drag, drop, spin and slide through the simple and fast ordering process. It’s cool and functional – the perfect combination. The app gives customers the ability to order a selection of food including Pizza, Tuscani Pasta, sides, as well as drinks. You can even save your order as an ‘ifav’, making it quicker to order your favourite meal in the future.

Kubizniak said the app can be viewed at http://www.pizzahut.com.au/iphone and downloaded from the iTunes store.

Meantime, Kubizniak said Pizza Hut’s “innovative online activities” have also captured the attention of the digital industry, with the company selected as a finalist in this year’s AIMIA Retail Website of the Year Award.

And, Kubizniak says Pizza Hut will also soon be launching a “clever new ordering service” for a variety of other 3G mobile phones.
