“We need to retain the talent coming out of our
educational institutions. To achieve this, it is critical that we have
enough work to keep them here, and this centre provides one such
opportunity. The potential impact of a centre like this on the local
economy is very significant.”
HP says its Christchurch centre offers
applications development and management services focused on Java/J2EE,
Microsoft .Net, testing and legacy systems, and the company says it
continues to invest heavily in developing these skills locally and that
plans are currently underway to enhance the centre’s SAP and Oracle
capabilities.
According to HP’s Eric Clark, the HP Christchurch centre is part of a
broader plan to expand the company’s applications services in New
Zealand, and he says HP is also in the process of establishing a
specialist government applications centre in Wellington to work closely
with its public sector clients, particularly in the areas of
transformation and modernisation.
Clark says the Christchurch centre joins HP delivery centres across
China, India, Philippines, Egypt, Poland, Slovakia, Argentina, Brazil
and Costa Rica.
