Gershon savings could come from printing reforms not just jobs

IT Industry - Market

Most CIOs he said were unaware of the total enterprise cost of printing and document management, believing it represented only 3-5 per cent of the ICT budget. In fact most enterprises would find their printing and document management budget equalled their entire ICT spend he said.

Some sectors stand to benefit more than others from a printing and document management overhaul according to John Johasky, HP vice president and general manager, who runs the imaging and printing group’s worldwide solutions and service business.

In Australia for customer meetings this week, Johasky said some sectors stand to benefit from a printing review more than others. The petrochemical sector for example spent as little as 1 per cent of its revenues on all printing, but that could soar to as much as 15 per cent in document intensive businesses such as law firms or marketing companies.

The average spend across all industries he said was 6 per cent of revenues.

During the last year Johasky said there had been a strong increase in demand from enterprise level customers for more cost effective printing solutions and managed print services, which had led to a strong increase in business for HP. “We started fiscal year November 2008 with $US4.2 billion of contract value. We are now at $US5 billion.”
