New clients, new state office for Viocorp

Bolton predicts that monetisation will be the next big thing in streaming video. So far, it has been funded largely from marketing budgets, viewer numbers are such that advertising and pay-per-view are becoming viable.

This will require robust mechanisms to handle the correct allocation of income to the various rightsholders and advertisers. "We've been doing a lot of exploratory work [in this area]," Bolton said.

Viocorp started as a video production company and expanded into webcasting, developing its own video management software that became the heart of the Viostream software as a service video streaming engine.

A key feature is that it allows the automated republishing of content in different formats and resolutions for different purposes, such as web and mobiles.

The company also offers VioTV, which Bolton describes as "basically a corporate YouTube" but with a look and feel that can be customised to match the client's branding.

VioTV clients include the Sydney Opera House, Australian Rugby Union, and the Prime Minister of Australia.

Until recently, Viocorp has operated on a direct model, but has recently added channel partners including WebCentral, Staging Connections, and a number of advertising agencies. The deal with agencies is said to be particularly important for attracting clients with short term projects that do not want to enter into Viocorp's normal annual contract.
