Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The Capital Territory’s home-grown broadband infrastructure and service provider TranACT will seek opportunities to participate in the National Broadband Network build in and around the Canberra area. But the company has no plan to slow its own roll-out of fibre
investments ahead of the NBN roll-out.
TransACT already owns an
operates an open access network servicing Canberra and Queanbeyan and as the NBN proceeds, will seek a construction role in the territory and its surrounding area while likely tipping its infrastructure assets into the national network.
TransACT chief executive Ivan Slavich told iTWire its investment in its
100Mbps fibre to the premises (FTTP) had been ongoing for two years,
through its vendor partners Alcatel-Lucent and Corning.
“TransACT has secured contracts for a significant number of new
estates, and has already and will continue to rollout its FTTP network
to thousands of new homes and apartment buildings across the ACT,”
Slavic told iTWire.
The company did not plan to bid for any of the network construction
work currently being tendered through the Backhaul Blackspots program,
and did not intend extending itself into a backhaul provider.
But in the Canberra and Queanbeyan areas, where Transact services are
available in about 90,000 premises, Slavic says the company wants to
play a big role, first in the provision of infrastructure, and then as
a service provider – including both advanced business services as well
as consumer focused offerings like IPTV.
“TransACT … will seek opportunities to play a significant role in
assisting the Federal Government achieve its goals of enabling the
visionary digital economy strategy,” Slavic told iTWire.
