The payback guarantee is offered to enterprise customers.
"In today's tough economic times, companies want a partner who understands their business and is willing to share the risks," said Bruce Dahlgren, senior vice president for worldwide sales and services at HP's imaging and printing group.
"It may seem counterintuitive that a printing company like HP wants to help customers print more efficiently but that’s exactly our focus and intent – to help our customers print more responsibly and intelligently," he added.
HP claims that MPS can reduce overall printing costs by as much as 30 percent.
This is achieved through factors such as 'rightsizing' the printing fleet (balancing the use high-volume models with low per-page costs with the need for convenient access), the energy savings provided by newer devices, making duplex printing the default setting, and job accounting.
For smaller customers, HP has announced Page Plan, a customer-managed scheme that uses various HP products to provide greater control over printing.
Available from September, Page Plan will incorporate products such as HP Access Control Secure Pull Printing with PIN Authentication and HP Access Control Job Accounting. Pull printing largely avoids waste due to jobs that are never collected from printer trays, while the existence of job accounting acts as a reminder to users that there's a cost associated with printing.
