Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Research in Motion has introduced into Australia the BlackBerry Curve 8900, initially on the Vodafone network, billed as its thinnest and lightest full-qwerty BlackBerry Smartphone ever.
It weighs in at 110 gm and measures 109 x 60x 13.5 cms, comes with a 480 x 360 pixel screen measuring 2.44 inches on the diagonal, a 3.2Megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and video recording capability.
The device also has a hot-swappable microSD/SDHC memory card slot (with a 256MB card included) and can support memory cards of up to 16GB (32MB when they become available).
The downside for many will be that it only a 2G device which means data transfer speeds are limited to a maximum of about 100Mbps available with GPRS on 2G.
The product has been available in overseas markets for several months and reviews sighted by iTWire have been generally very favourable. I, however have one complaint. I'm one of about five percent of males with a degree of colour blindness and only in optimal lighting could I see the numerals identifying the numeric keys on the qwerty keypad, because these are printed in red on a black background.
Vodafone, according to RIM, will be offering the 8900 initially to its corporate and Business One customers (Vodafone's converged offering for SMEs in which RIM along with Cisco are strategic partners ) and will sell it outright for $929.
