Vista voted tech world's biggest fiasco

IT Industry - Market

Windows Vista lovers have had pie thrown in their faces with the revelation that the operating system which took Microsoft five years to roll out has been voted the technology world's worst fiasco.

Other contenders were Google's Lively virtual world, Nicholas Negroponte's XO laptop, and Second Life.

According to the organisers, the Fiasco Awards are an initiative of a group of people linked to the ICT sector which wants to reward the best non-successful projects in the area.

"The award wants to promote critical spirit and a positive attitude towards failure, which is a necessary stage in the road to success."

There were 23 nominations and nine finalists were chosen: chosen nine finalists: Google Lively; Windows Vista; Second life; Autonomix, the Free Software packs distributed by Public Administrations; Maresme Digital; Mobuzz.tv; DAB, the digital radio; and SAGA, the Administration and Academic Management System of the Catalan Government, and the XO laptop of the One Laptop Per Child project.

Given that Steven Sinofsky, senior vice-president for Microsoft Windows and Windows live engineering group, has admitted publicly that Windows 7 has more than 2000 bugs, the company may well have a likely winner around when the 2010 Fiasco Awardsare held.
