OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
MOKO.mobi (ASX: MKB), the developer of a mobile web service that enables people to chat and share over their mobile device, has signed an agreement with India's second largest wireless carrier Reliance Communications that will see MOKO.mobi localised and made available to Reliance's 61.3 million customers.
"MOKO.mobi will be fully integrated into Reliance's billing and MMS systems and Reliance will carry the service as a featured 'on-deck' product helping to quickly establish MOKO.mobi as a pre-eminent brand in the Indian market," said Ian Rodwell, MOKO.mobi CEO. He added: "This is our first major carrier deal in India and our largest single carrier deal to date, after our recently announced multicountry deal with America Movil."
MOKO.mobi differentiates itself from other mobile social network services saying that, while they rely on growth from offering a free and predominantly online focused service, it has always offered a purpose-built mobile service with a business model based on integration with mobile carriers' billing systems.
"MOKO.mobi has a direct revenue share deal with Reliance and earns income from a variety of user-pays activities such as MMS, private media messaging and other premium bundled user pays charges," Rodwell explained.
MOKO.mobi is aimed at the youth and young adult demographic. In Australia it is available on Telstra, Optus, 3 and Virgin Mobile. Overseas customers include Virgin Mobile USA and Smart Philippines.
