The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.
dotMobi, the company behind the .mobi Internet domain created for websites designed to be accessed from mobile devices, has launched a service designed to enable SMBs to create a mobile-accessible web site with minimal effort.
dotMobi claims that the service, Instant Mobilizer, "gives small business owners the ability to take their existing PC-based Web site assets and instantly create mobile-ready sites that work on any phone, on any network."
However, the organisation is at pains to point out that it is not trying to usurp the role of professional web site developers. "Instant Mobilizer is intended to augment, rather than compete, with the relationship we have with hundreds of mobile Web developers and designers around the world," Trey Harvin, dotMobi's CEO, said.
Harvin hopes it will help to grow the mobile web industry to the benefit of all participants. "Instant Mobilizer will introduce millions of SMBs to the mobile Web for the first time, and a more mobile-savvy marketplace will improve the prospects for the entire mobile Web development community."
Instant Mobilizer brings together several technologies dotMobi has developed during the past three years. These include DeviceAtlas, a mobile device database which ensures that mobile sites work well on any mobile handset and the mobiReady.com testing tool which "gives SMBs confidence that Instant Mobilizer Web sites will be seen by customers quickly and accurately."
dotMobi claims also that the .mobi domain name on a site helps to ensure that it will pass through operator and handset transcoders unaltered, and makes it more easily indexed by search engines.
To gain access to Instant Mobilizer, SMBs need to visit one of dotMobi's domain registrar partners who are offering Instant Mobilizer and sign up for the service and a .mobi domain. DotMobi says that, currently, more than one dozen registrars offer – or are about to launch – Instant Mobilizer to their customers.
