Android plus Asus plus Garmin equals Eee Phone

IT Industry - Market

Asus make great netbook computers, Garmin make great GPS portable navigation devices, and Android is proving to be a successful smartphone operating platform based on glowing reviews of the HTC Dream. All this adds up to what promises to be an exciting product slated for later in 2009, the Eee Phone.

While there are no guarantees that the Eee Phone will use Android for its OS, it's hard to imagine Asus taking a chance on anything else. Android looks to be the way of the future.

The alliance between Garmin and Asus certainly appears to be an interesting one. Both are innovators in their respective fields.

Garmin brings usability and design capaility in the mobile form factor suitable for smartphones, not to mention superior GPS capabilities. Asus has succeeded in introducing a paradign shift in the way we use portable computers. It gave birth to concept of the downsized low cost sub-notebook known as the netbook.

If you throw in an open source operating system backed by Google which likely to spawn a plethora of applications, we appear to have a three-way  match mde in heaven.

On thing is for sure. The world will be waiting with baited breath to see if Asus can successfully take a low cost Eee device into the mobile phone space. We live in interesting times.
