Mobile operators get fixed price spectrum renewal in $3b Government windfall

The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.

RIM opens new regional headquarters in Sydney

Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the BlackBerry, today opened a new regional headquarters in Sydney to service its customers in Australia and New Zealand.

At today’s official unveiling of the new headquarters by Canadian Consul General, Thomas A MacDonald, RIM’s Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Adele Beachley said the company had developed a strong operation in Australia over the past six years and the new regional headquarters would help foster RIM’s innovation and growth while serving both customers and partners in the region.

"Each month, together with our business partners, we are expanding our reach and winning new customers with cutting-edge smartphones, such as the BlackBerry Bold™, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry Storm.”

The opening of the new headquarters building was attended by representatives of the New South Wales Government, North Sydney Council and RIM's partners and customers.

Adele Beachley said the new headquarters feature extensive training facilities, a research and development centre, a strategic partner marketing centre and technical support services.
