Telstra's Enterprise and Government business unit has launched a campaign aimed at improving, and measuring, enterprise productivity announcing the results of what will be annual surveys into productivity and a new web site focussed on enterprise productivity issues.
Telstra says its initial survey has identified a 'productivity gap' in many Australian organisations: decision makers surveyed identified productivity as one of their most important goals but lacked identifiable targets or even strategies to measure productivity.
"Seventy-eight per cent of Australia's largest organisations say improving productivity is a high priority, but only half of those surveyed have any systems in place to measure improvements or set targets," Telstra said.
According to the head of Telstra Enterprise and Government, David Thodey, "[the report] is the most extensive and insightful research on productivity available to Australian organisations today and will open up a necessary discussion on how ICT can drive productivity increases at the individual, workgroup and enterprise level."
Paul Geason, executive director of convergent sales in Telstra Enterprise and Government, told ITWire "This is the first survey of its kind in this country and it will be important to go back and make sure we are staying in touch with our customers. We look forward to this becoming the annual Telstra productivity indicator."
He added: "Being a provider of ICT services to enterprise and government customers we thought it important that we should take the time and effort and provide some leadership of the context in which our customers think about productivity."
"What we hope to do with the indicator is raise the level of awareness within organisations that they have to get the fundamental underpinning: 'can I measure it [productivity]?' And there wil be plenty of organisations out there able to help them to do that."
