Construction needs cloud flexibility

Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

Loadsamoney! Apple cracks another quarterly record

IT Industry - Listed Tech

Apple's latest quarterly results feature record sales volumes, revenues and profits.

As widely predicted, Apple sold more than 4 million Macs in the quarter ending December 25, 2010 - 4.13 million to be more precise. That's 23% year-on-year growth.

And iPhone sales are still rocketing: at 16.24 million, they were up a whopping 86% on fiscal 1Q10. Not quite as impressive as the 91% rise in the previous quarter, but still strong.

A new iPad sales record was also set at 7.33 million units. Apple's tablet was released earlier this year, so there's no year-on-year comparison. But it was a healthy increase on the October 2010 quarter's 4.19 million iPads.

iPod sales continue to decline slowly. The 19.45 million unit sales in the December quarter was down 7% on the year-ago period, but that's more than compensated by the growth in iPhone sales - after all, the iPhone duplicates iPod functionality.

"We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs, presumably before he went on medical leave.

It's not just volume: the dollars flowed in too - see page 2.
