HP has agreed to acquire security and compliance management provider ArcSight.
HP has agreed to acquire security and compliance management provider ArcSight for $US1.5 billion in cash.
The deal will allow HP to offer a new type of enterprise security solution.
"By combining ArcSight's Enterprise Threat and Risk Management Platform with HP's breadth of application development and operations management solutions, HP will be able to offer an integrated security platform that delivers broader visibility, deeper context and faster remediation of enterprise-wide security and risk-related events," said Tom Reilly, ArcSite president and CEO.
"In a world where perimeter security is no longer enough, businesses need this holistic approach to securing their networks, applications and sensitive data," he added.
HP officials say the acquisition will allow the company to deliver a broad view of operational, security and compliance events; to correlate activity and state changes in real time to detect risks and threats, and to help keep enterprises secure.
The acquisition should be completed by the end of the calendar year.
In the last year, HP has acquired
Palm and
3Com, completed the integration of
EDS (it acquired the company in 2008), and agreed to acquire storage provider
3PAR. The company also recently
lost its former chairman, CEO and president Mark Hurd, and launched a
lawsuit against Oracle after it hired him.
