VMware sees strong growth in Asia Pacific

IT Industry - Listed Tech

VMware's overall revenue growth of 48% year-on-year was impressive enough, but it was even stronger in Asia Pacific.

VMware reported global revenue growth of 48% to $US674 million for the second quarter of 2010, but the Asia Pacific region (including Japan) ripped ahead by 81%.

Company officials said every country in the region recorded "significant growth", and even VMware's most mature markets in Asia Pacific performed well. Australia and New Zealand was up 71%, Japan by 97% and Greater China by 94%.

Regional growth was largely attributable to the vSphere product. "VMware in APJ is seeing tremendous growth across all key markets, with most growth being generated by our vSphere virtualisation platform," said Andrew Dutton, senior vice president and general manager, VMware Asia Pacific.

"We see strong demand from enterprises deploying private cloud infrastructure, as well as increasing traction from service providers building public cloud services," added Dutton.

It's not just a case of selling more licences to the same people: customer numbers grew by 55% to more than 15,000 during the preceding 12 months. To cope, VMware increased its regional headcount by more than 45% during the same period.
